Aquidneck Growers’ Market runs a year round market at Newport Vineyards & Winery in Middletown, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and our Wednesday market in Newport runs from May to October on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Our markets offer fresh, locally grown foods; everything available at the markets is grown or made by the vendor within a 50 mile radius.
We have operated a summer market at Newport Vineyards in Middletown since 1995, opening at a second summer location in Newport in 2000 on Memorial Boulevard in the center of the city. In 2014 we moved our young winter farmers’ market to the newly renovated winery where customers can shop from 9 am to 1 pm and enjoy coffee, lunch or a glass of wine on the patios overlooking the vineyard.
Our marketplace features both organic and conventionally-grown products that include: fresh vegetables, cut flowers, herbs, fruit, plants, eggs, breads, baked goods, meats, seafood, cheese, salsa and prepared foods such as tacos, burritos, pizza and middle eastern foods. Our Saturday market features a changing selection of local artisans and breakfast or lunch, cooked to order.
The Newport market is held on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on a main road through the city and is a bit parking-challenged, so we are happy to see you arrive by foot, bike or scooter: we have plenty of safe places to park a bike while you shop. You might also want to bring a blanket for a picnic in the shade of this lovely tree-lined street while you enjoy one of the many delicious foods that market vendors have to offer.
At our markets we strive to create supportive community events where all are welcome to shop, snack, listen to live music and meet and greet neighbors. With more than 25 vendors at both summer markets, and regular attendance by hundreds of shoppers every week these are lively places to visit. We participate in the Fresh Buck system that allows customers to buy market tokens with debit or credit cards for purchasing from all vendors. The same system allows us to offer Bonus Bucks for fruit and vegetables to SNAP program customers. When visiting on summer Saturdays please note that pets are not permitted in the market square.
We aim to provide easy access to seasonal, regionally grown food and greater awareness of the benefits of eating fresh local foods for our health, the strength of our local economy, the viability of agricultural life and the future of our earth.
